Library+ are holding a short story competition for world book day (6th March). Signpost learners to join in or incorporate as part of a lesson. The competition comes with lovely prizes (shopping vouchers I believe) and the deadline is 21st February.
I know it is easier to do with a Functional Skills English - currently designing a lesson around it - but perhaps it could be incorporated into a tutorial?
There's another competition run by Reader's Digest where entrants have to submit a 100 word story. When teaching functional skills last year, there were quite a few students who entered. Prizes are good too.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at the take up with this in class, students were actually quite eager to get involved. Activities like this are excellent for embedding minimum core skills and it is nice that the learners get a reward from someone external from the classroom.
